Tomorrow marks the beginning of a new journey for me. Continue reading “There is good in the unknown”
Jennifer currently works as the Growth Manager for Sales Channels at Shopify. I worked with her at Wave Accounting, where her insatiable thirst for learning and, in turn, sharing her knowledge within and outside the company was evident and admirable. She’s had quite the journey into tech, and continues to push boundaries and encourage others to do the same. I had the pleasure of chatting with her to learn more about her intriguing career path, her experiences and learnings throughout this journey, and what the feminism and diversity movements means to her.
Emily currently works as an Associate Product Manager at Wattpad. I’ve worked with her over the past few months and I’m continually impressed by her passion for constant learning and discovery, and her innate drive to solve meaningful problems. She is a strong advocate for diversity in tech, and has been one of the driving forces behind this movement at Wattpad – be it through sharing her research, gathering internal sentiment insights, or pushing for important conversations around diversity. I’m excited to share my chat with her, where I learned more about how she landed in product, her learnings throughout this journey, and her views on diversity and equality.
Seema currently works as the Head of Core Products at Wattpad. I’ve had the pleasure of sharing a number of discussions with her on product, diversity, and our mutual love for Salsa (mainly, who our Salsa instructor likes best), and have always come out of them enlightened or entertained! She continually inspires me, be it through stories of her unconventional journey into product, her inquisitive and analytical approach to problem solving, or her contagious passion and excitement for the things she holds dear. I was excited to connect with her to hear more about her experiences and learnings over the years, and her thoughts on some of the gender and diversity problems we face today.
Jing Jing currently works as the Engagement Team Lead at Wattpad. I knew of her even before I started working at Wattpad – a friend had met her during a startup open house event, and spoke highly of her openness and friendly demeanor. She met and exceeded all expectations I had of her – she is smart yet humble, hard working, thoughtful, and one of the most helpful and welcoming individuals I’ve ever met. I was very excited to hear more about her non-linear journey into the tech world, her experiences and learnings so far, and her thoughts on the importance of diversity and equality.
Huda is currently on an exciting journey, finally starting her own company after having been part of the Toronto startup community – most recently as the Head of Product and Design at Wealthsimple. Our paths briefly crossed at Wave where she worked on the Product Design team, and I was inspired to have met a woman working in a field I had just become obsessed with. By virtue of her existing and thriving in a field I had once thought of as unreachable, she unknowingly pushed me to start exploring the world of product. I was extremely honored to learn more about her journey into Product Design, her learnings as a female minority in leadership, and her hopes to positively impact the tech community as she follows her entrepreneurial calling.
I-Yana currently works as a Talent Specialist at Wattpad. I first met her during her internship at Wattpad, and was immediately drawn by the positive energy and excitement she brought to her role. (I was also very happy to see someone like me join the team!) To me, she serves as a great example of what you can accomplish with hard work and a lot of determination. It was inspiring hearing about her unconventional path into the startup world, the impact it has had on her life, and her hopes for the future of women and diversity.
